How a session works

Thirty minutes, one fixed round, always someone beside you

You train in a circuit: a series of machines that you work through in a set order. No starting level is needed. If you have never exercised you simply begin, and if you have trained for years you go heavier.

01

You get in touch

Through the form below, by phone, or you simply walk in at the Mahaaiweg. We call you back to arrange a time.

02

You come and try it for free

A trainer walks you past the machines and shows you how every exercise should feel. Sports clothes, a towel and a bottle of water, that is all you need.

03

You choose only afterwards

If you like it, you pick a membership. If you want to think about it, that is fine. A trial session ties you to nothing.

04

You get your card

You check in with your Dunker Fitness membership card at every visit. That way we know who is here and we keep track of your progress.

05

You tell us when you are coming

We make sure there is a spot free for you. If you cannot make it once, you simply move to another time.

06

You belong here

From that moment you are officially part of the Dunker Fitness family. That is not a slogan, you notice it over the coffee afterwards.

Who it is for

For everyone who wants to move safely

Our members are adults of forty and over, men and women, with very different backgrounds. What they share is that they want to stay healthy, stay mobile and not be left on their own while they train.

  • You are forty, fifty or sixty plus and want to do something for your fitness
  • You have never exercised and do not know where to start
  • You have diabetes, high blood pressure or excess weight and your doctor advises exercise
  • Your treatment at a rehabilitation centre has ended and you still want to go on
  • You notice your balance and your strength getting less
  • You want to keep your muscle mass now that you are getting older

This is the floor

No models. Members.

Everyone you see here actually trains at Dunker Fitness. The photos were taken in Mahaai on an ordinary weekday morning, with nothing staged.

Circuit training

The heart of what we do. Specially selected machines, in a fixed route, thirty minutes long. Within reach for anyone who has never exercised and heavy enough for anyone who has been at it for years.

Kickbox fitness

Coordination, reaction and fitness in one. We also use it on purpose with people who have Parkinson's, because intensive and focused exercise keeps them mobile for longer.

Personal training

Included with every membership, even the cheapest one. There is always someone beside you who checks whether you are doing it right and who adjusts your exercises when that is needed.

Post-rehabilitation training

Carrying on where the rehabilitation centre stops

There are few places in Curaçao for people whose treatment has ended and who still want to go on. At Dunker Fitness you can, under the supervision of a physiotherapist.

Recovering after an operation, a stroke or a neurological condition does not stop the moment the programme ends. We take those people in and guide them further: building strength, balance and fitness back up, at a pace that fits. The sessions are always discussed with the trainers and planned in.

The physiotherapy practice is in the same building at the Mahaaiweg. That is exactly why this is possible here and not in most other places.

Why members stay

Six things that are different here

Everyone here is forty plus

You do not have to measure yourself against a room full of young athletes. The people next to you are your age and doing the same round.

Professional guidance

A trainer walks along with every session. Not to count for you, but to see whether your posture is right and to put you back on track.

Set up to avoid injury

The machines were chosen for how easy they are to use. No free weights you can pick up the wrong way, no exercises that take your back by surprise.

Flexible schedules

You tell us when you are coming and we keep a spot free. If it does not suit you once, you move to another time.

Sessions of thirty minutes

Short enough to keep up alongside your work or your day, long enough to really do something. In and out, without losing half a morning.

At your own pace

There is no starting level. You begin where you are and you build up from there. Nobody is watching the clock.

What members say

Rated 4.5 on Google

4.5 from 10 reviews on Google

When you walk into Dunker Fitness it invites you to start, because the machines really are adapted for older people. And the coach who guides you, that is good too.

Jeannette BerendsMember at Dunker Fitness

Eight machines, specific exercises, but always under professional guidance and in a small group. I feel safe.

Ange JessurunMember at Dunker Fitness

After a session of thirty minutes I feel good. I feel I have been active, without overdoing it. Everybody feels comfortable.

Martial IgnacioMember at Dunker Fitness

Every muscle gets the chance to develop, in a professional and pleasant way. The personal contact at Dunker Fitness is outstanding.

Russel BernadinaMember at Dunker Fitness

It is different from the traditional gyms. I go three times a week now and I intend to go every day. I miss it when I do not.

Try the strength meter

How fast is your strength slipping away?

After fifty, muscle strength drops two to five times faster than muscle mass. And it is strength, not mass, that decides whether you get out of a chair on your own. Fill in three things and see what training changes.

  • Without training
  • Twice a week
Come and feel it, first session free

This is an illustration based on averages from research, not a statement about you personally. Calculated with a strength loss of roughly 1.5 percent a year from age fifty, rising to 3 percent from seventy-five, and a strength gain of roughly 15 percent in the first year of guided strength training, after which the decline halves. If you have any doubts about your health, speak to your doctor or physiotherapist first.

Frequently asked questions

What people ask us before they come

I have never exercised. Can I really do this?

Yes. The exercises need no starting level, and that is exactly why this gym is set up the way it is. At every machine a trainer shows you how it works and how heavy it should be for you. Many of our members started here without ever having set foot in a gym.

How long does a session take?

Thirty minutes. You work through the circuit in a set order. Short enough to keep up alongside your day, and still a full workout for strength and fitness.

I have diabetes, high blood pressure or joint problems. Can I join in?

Especially then. Moving is extra important for people with a chronic condition, and we are set up to guide that safely. Tell us at your trial session and we take it into account from the very first session. If you are in doubt, have a word with your doctor.

I have just finished a rehabilitation programme. Can I carry on here?

You can. We guide people whose treatment at a rehabilitation centre has ended and who still want to go on with their recovery, under the supervision of a physiotherapist. For rehabilitation we first plan a free intake meeting. Read more about it on the rehabilitation page.

What should I bring to the trial session?

Sports clothes, shoes you stand well in, a towel and a bottle of water. Nothing else. You do not pay anything in advance and you are tied to nothing.

Can I pay in cash?

No. Payment goes by direct debit, by bank transfer or with your debit card.

Is there a notice period?

Every membership has a notice period of one month. Once the term is over, a membership is renewed automatically. The trial session carries no obligation at all.

Is Papiamentu spoken here?

Yes. Our trainers speak Papiamentu, Dutch and English. You talk to us in the language you feel most comfortable in.

Bon bini

What are you waiting for?

The first session costs nothing. After that you know exactly whether this suits you.
